Puppetry

             Puppetry

Puppetry is a form of theatre per-
-formance  which involves the manipula-
-tion of puppets. It is very ancient and believed to have originated 3000 years
B.C.  The word  'PUPPETRY' , has been derived from a Latin word for 'Doll' .

Puppets are used in almost all human societies , both as an entertainment in performance and ceremonially in rituals and celebrations such as carnivals.

The performance of puppets is called Puppet Production . The script for a pupp-
-et production is known as a Puppet Play
and the person who controls puppets is called Puppeteer . Puppeteers use movements from hands and arms to control devices such as rods or string to move the body, limbs, head and in some  cases the mouth and eyes of the puppet.

Mostly puppetry involves story telling .
The puppeteer sometimes speaks in the voice of the character of puppet , while at other times they perform to a recorded sound track .

The impect of puppetry depends upon the transformation of puppets , which has much in common with magic and with   play .A Puppet Show is a dramatic perfor-
-mance such as 'Punch and Judy' show in which the character acts ,while manipul-
-lator speaks the lines.

                  'Punch and Judy'
It is a traditional puppet show featuring Mr. Punch and his wife Judy . The perfor-
-mance consists of a sequence of short scenes , each depicting an interaction between two characters . It is often associated with traditional British culture.
The various episodes of Punch comedy -
Often provoking shocked laughter - are
dominated by clowning of Mr. Punch.
